579 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the proposed spending envelopes approved and set out by his Department for the foreseeable future; the broad objectives to be achieved by spending of such financial envelopes; the timescale set out for achievement of targets; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The overall approved capital spending envelope available to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform and associated agencies over the period 2006 to 2010 comprises of: €592m by way of direct Exchequer capital and €400m by way of PPP/NDFA investment — giving an approved total of €992m over the period.

The broad objective to be achieved over the period will be to enhance the capital infrastructure within the Justice Vote Group and will include amongst other major projects:

Development of a new prison at Thornton, County Dublin.

Provision of a new Criminal Courts Complex.

Garda Síochána National Digital Radio.

Redevelopment of the Prison on Spike Island.
