Question:

1455 Ms C. Murphy asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of candidates who are currently being assessed, or have been assessed with a view to participating in the rental accommodation scheme; the number of these candidates in each county; the number of candidates who are to be accommodated using this scheme by the end of 2006; the number he anticipates will be accommodated under the scheme by the end of 2007; and if he will make a statement on the matter. To date 11,494 cases have been assessed for transfer to the Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) as detailed in the following table.

It is projected that by the end of 2006, 5,000 households with a long-term housing need will have transferred from rent supplement to accommodation provided by local authorities, either to RAS, or to some other type of social housing. The aim is that by the end of 2007 a total of 10,000 cases will have been accommodated under the scheme.
