331 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason the Health Service Executive does not have an obligation to provide transport for patients attending out-patient appointments, especially for patients suffering from a physical disability, who do not have access to private transport, or access to public transport and who do not have the resources to hire private transport; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe Health Service Executive has advised that its National Ambulance Office, in conjunction with the Primary, Community and Continuing Care Directorate and the National Hospital Office, is currently arranging for a comprehensive review to be undertaken of the non-emergency transport needs of patients. This review will include an examination of the service currently delivered and make recommendations that will inform its future development. The HSE anticipates that the review will be completed by the end of this year.
