The question of the introduction of an industry level appeal mechanism in relation to regulatory decisions under the Taxi Regulation Act 2003 has been raised by representatives of certain taxi groups at recent meetings with officials of my Department. My Department drew the attention of the representatives to the consultation process that is underway regarding regulatory appeals mechanisms generally (Consultation Paper on Regulatory Appeals, Department of the Taoiseach, July 2006). The taxi representatives have undertaken to consider the consultation document and to put forward proposals in respect of the taxi industry.
