182 Ms O’Sullivan asked the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that students referred for orthodontic assessment while in sixth class primary school can be waiting three or more years for that assessment; the action she is taking to speed up this process to prevent further damage to these young people; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Deputy's question regarding the way that children are assessed and deemed eligible for orthodontic treatment relates to the management and delivery of health and personal social services, which are the responsibility of the Health Service Executive under the Health Act 2004. Accordingly, my Department has requested the parliamentary affairs division of the executive to arrange to have this matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
