Questions (273)

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

340 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the reason the standing charges for gas here increased 50% in the past year alongside gas price increases despite the fact that the standing charge is not related to international fuel costs; if he will ask Bord Gáis Éireann to provide him with a report on this matter; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can advise the Deputy that, as the setting of charges fall within the statutory responsibility of the Commission for Energy Regulation, under the Electricity Regulation Act, 1999 and the Gas (Interim) (Regulation) Act, 2002. I have no function in the matter.
