110 Mr. Costello asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a person (details supplied) has been on hunger strike for a period of time, that they wish to receive a visa to visit their spouse and family and that they are still awaiting a decision on their application for refugee status; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerIt is not the practice to comment in detail on an individual asylum application or on any other issues arising in connection with an application.
As the Deputy will be aware, applications for refugee status in the State are determined by an independent process comprising the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner and the Refugee Appeals Tribunal which make recommendations to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform on whether such status should be granted.
A final decision on this application will be made on receipt of the decision of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal.
