160 Deputy Frank Feighan asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason transport is not provided for a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon despite the fact that assurances were given to parents in this region. [8657/08]
View answerThe pupil, referred to by the Deputy, in the details supplied, is eligible for transport to the school in question. However, Bus Eireann which operates the school transport scheme on behalf of the Department, has advised that, at present, there is not a sufficient number of eligible pupils in the locality, to warrant the establishment of a service. The position may be re-examined at a later date should more eligible pupils offer for transport.
In the circumstances, the Department has sanctioned a remote area grant towards the cost of private transport arrangements.
