Question:

325 Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Transport if he has asked as a matter of public health, to reduce death and injury on the roads, that those taking lessons or re-tests should be able to claim back the tax paid on the fees and other incentive to encourage current provisional licence holders to apply for the test and prepare for it properly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for driver licensing and testing was transferred to the Road Safety Authority in September 2006, under the Road Safety Authority Act 2006 (Conferral of Functions) Order 2006 (S.I. No. 477 of 2006). The arrangements in relation to driver testing and licensing are therefore a matter for the Road Safety Authority. The granting of tax reliefs is a matter for my colleague the Minister for Finance.
