796 Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of breathalysers currently in use by the Garda Síochána; his plans to increase the number of breathalysers that are currently available to An Garda Síochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that 645 breath alcohol devices have been issued for use by An Garda Síochána.

The breathalysers are issued to An Garda Síochána by the Medical Bureau of Road Safety, which is under the aegis of the Department of Transport.
