Ruairí Quinn
Question:1834 Deputy Ruairí Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will confirm that he received correspondence from a person (details supplied) in County Kerry outlining their concerns for the future of the Irish language in Gaeltacht primary schools; if his attention has been drawn to the validity of the observations made for the necessity to reduce the pupil teacher ratios, particularly in smaller rural schools, the requirement that learning support hours be increased by 50% and the recognition that up to 26% of pupils in these schools were neither born in the Gaeltacht nor speak the Irish language at home; the steps he proposes to take to ensure that this cradle of the spoken Irish language is secured within the primary school system; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
