775 Deputy Joe Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will provide the information promised in the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 426 of 27 June 2006; the reason for the delay in providing this information; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I regret that a definitive response did not issue arising from the Deputy's previous Question (which arose against the background of transferal of responsibility for provision of information of the kind requested).

The Garda Síochána Act 2005 makes provision for the compilation and publication of crime statistics by the Central Statistics Office, as the national statistical agency, and the CSO has established a dedicated unit for this purpose.

I have requested the CSO to provide the statistics sought by the Deputy directly to him.
