Day to day operational matters, including the level of staff absenteeism, in the agencies reporting to my Department are matters for the individual agencies concerned.

494 Deputy Leo Varadkar asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of staff within agencies within the remit of his Department who have availed of early retirement schemes in each of the past three years; the breakdown of such by the grade and age of the staff who availed of the schemes; the breakdown of the reasons for granting early retirement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Day to day operational matters, including ill health retirement and cost neutral early retirement, in the case of staff of the agencies reporting to my Department are matters for the individual agencies concerned. My sanction would be required to the application in these agencies of any other early retirement scheme and this has not arisen in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007.
