View answerThe improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads in its area is a matter for the relevant local authority, to be funded from its own resources supplemented by State grants. The selection of works to be funded from these grants is also a matter for the local authority. In August this year applications were invited for consideration for funding under the 2009 Specific Grant Scheme. The initial selection of projects to be submitted for consideration for funding under this scheme is solely a matter for local authorities. The proposals submitted by Wicklow County Council did not include an application for grant aid for Ballysmuttan Bridge.
