View answerUnder the civil service pension schemes retiring staff are awarded annual pensions and lump sums in line with their grade, length of service and final pensionable remuneration. The total cost of retirement lump sums and severance payments to retiring staff in my Department over the past three years is set out hereunder. The Department is not prepared to give a more detailed breakdown as it would allow individual payments to be identified given the small number of people involved. In addition, retiring pensions at the approved annual rates are awarded to staff on retirement.
