135 Deputy Brian Hayes asked the Taoiseach if laptops, art works, paintings, sculptures, computers, mobile telephones, blackberries or other equipment has been lost or stolen from his Department or its agencies since 2007 to date in 2009; the circumstances surrounding the items’ disappearance; if action has been taken to recover the item or items; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 12 mobile phones have been either lost or stolen from my Department in the period January 2007 to date. Upon notification or such a loss the devices concerned are immobilised to prevent any further use. No laptops or Blackberry devices were lost or stolen from my Department in this period. The Office of Public Works is responsible for all art works and stock control measures in relation to such works. Central Statistics Office (CSO)

Two laptops have been stolen from the Central Statistics office since the start of 2007. Both incidents were reported to the Gardaí. One laptop was stolen from an employee's home and was recovered by the Gardaí. The other was stolen from an employee while on official business. This laptop did not contain any personal or identifiable information. No other items covered by the Deputy's question have been lost or stolen from the CSO since 1 January 2007 to date.
