179 Deputy Jan O’Sullivan asked the Minister for Health and Children if hospitals have a facility to allow patients to pay their accident and emergency bills by credit card; if not, the reason for same; her views on whether such a facility would save time and money in the issuing and posting of bills and receipts; her other proposals to reduce paperwork and administrative costs in the health services; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Broughan asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason patients cannot pay accident and emergency charges via a credit card; if she has plans to facilitate the paying of accident and emergency charges by credit card in view of the cost savings that could be accrued by not having to then bill each patient; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
