347 Deputy Bobby Aylward asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he will clarify if planning permission is required from local authorities for works carried out under the forest road grants scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7511/09]
View answerThe forest road grants scheme is administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Section 4(1) of the Planning and Development Act 2000 sets out certain broad categories of development that are exempted developments for the purposes of the Act. Section 4(1)(i) includes, inter alia, development consisting of the construction, maintenance and improvement of non-public roads serving forests and woodlands and works ancillary to that development, not including the replacement of broadleaf high forest by conifer species.
