Questions (468)

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Question:

506 Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has had communication with the authorities of University College Dublin with regard to their decision to spend €15 million on building a 50 metre swimming pool rather than using the moneys gained through a land swap for reducing the college’s financial deficit, and thus negate the supposed need to cut back on contract staff and other cut backs in education in the college. University College Dublin is an autonomous institution. Day to day management of the University's affairs is a matter for the University's Governing Body. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the Governing Body to utilise its assets as it deems appropriate to its needs cognisant of all competing priorities for funding and mindful of its statutory responsibilities under the Universities Act 1997.
