193 Deputy Seán Sherlock asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if the installation aid scheme is co-funded by the EU; if so, if the EU Commission has the right to override decisions made by him in relation to the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9346/09]
View answerThe funding provided under Ireland's Rural Development Programme for the period 2007-2013, including the Young Farmers' Installation Scheme, is substantially higher than that required to draw down all of the available EU co-funding. For this reason, there will be sufficient eligible expenditure during the period to maximize Ireland's draw down of co-funding notwithstanding the suspension of the above Scheme for new applications.
I have made provision of €9.7m for 2009 to meet current commitments under the Young Farmers' Installation Scheme and the preceding equivalent schemes.
