View answerThe structures, arrangements and procedures that exist to facilitate access to solicitors by suspects in Garda custody are outlined in Regulation 9 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 (Treatment of Persons in Custody in Garda Síochána Stations) Regulations, 1987 and 2006.
The treatment of children in custody, including access to a solicitor, is further protected by part 6 of the Children Act 2001.
