I propose to take Questions Nos. 443 and 444 together.

My Department has received correspondence from the person in question and has outlined the position in relation to his child's enrolment in the school concerned.

The person has been advised that the enrolment of pupils in schools is the responsibility of the authorities of the individual school and that in the event that a disagreement arises between parents or guardians in relation to the enrolment of a child, it is a matter to be resolved between the parents/guardians concerned.

Where joint guardians cannot reach an agreement on an issue concerning the child then an application can be made to the court under the Guardianship of Infants Act 1964 and the court will make a decision in the child's best interest. It is not open to my Department to intervene in such matters.
