View answerThe scheduling of patients for hospital treatment is in each case determined on the basis of clinical need. Therefore should the patient's general practitioner consider that the patient's condition warrants an earlier appointment, then he/she would be in the best position to take the matter up with the consultant involved. The primary remit of the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) is to facilitate treatment for those public patients waiting longest for surgery. I have asked the Fund to respond to the Deputy in relation to the particular case raised.
