201 Deputy Brian O’Shea asked the Minister for Transport his views on the recent report of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Arts, Sports, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Report on Rural Transport Provision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11874/10]
View answerThe report will be examined by my Department in the context of the development of rural transport policy. I note however that while the Report draws on previous research material produced both within and outside Ireland, it does not take into account the rural transport measures in my Department's Smarter Travel Plan or in the Renewed Programme for Government, nor does it refer to the recent establishment of the National Transport Authority. Some of the recommendations of the Report also relate to matters for which the Departments of Social and Family Affairs and Education and Science have responsibility.
