225 Deputy Olivia Mitchell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills the reason there is a delay in the processing of grant applications by the County Dublin Vocational Educational Committee in respect of persons (details supplied) in Dublin 18; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe decision on eligibility for student grants is a matter for the relevant assessing authority — i.e. the Local Authority or VEC. These bodies do not refer individual applications to my Department except, in exceptional cases, where, for example, advice or instruction regarding a particular clause in the relevant scheme is required.
I understand that County Dublin VEC has now advised that the candidates referred to by the Deputy were awarded the grant on 29th April 2010.
