63 Deputy Terence Flanagan asked the Minister for Finance further to Parliamentary Question No. 177 of 9 November 2010, if he will issue a directive to the professionals in private practice such as doctors and solicitors to get them to reduce their fees to consumers who have taken a drop in their income. As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 177 of 9 November 2010, professional fees paid by Government under contracts for service in the public service have already been subject to reductions in 2009 and in 2010 and the question of a further reduction is a matter for consideration by the Government in the context of the forthcoming Budget. The Minister for Finance has no function in setting the fees charged to their clients by professionals in private practice such as doctors and solicitors. These fees are a matter between the relevant professional and their client.
