23 Deputy Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the position regarding the implementation of biodiversity strategy in place and if any measures contained in the strategy are yet to be implemented; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Since then, the closing date for the public consultation on the next National Biodiversity Plan has passed and a large number of detailed submissions were received and are under consideration at present. In addition the draft plan is being reviewed in light of decisions made by the recent Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity, held in Nagoya, Japan, and, in particular, the adoption of the new Strategic Plan for the Convention for the period 2011-2020.
I intend to bring the new Plan to Government shortly.
