116 Deputy Brendan Smith asked the Minister for Education and Skills the number of Gaelscoileanna fully recognised in the school years 1996-97 together with the number of pupils enrolled in the schools and the most recent comparable figures. [6398/11]
View answerIn the 1996/1997 school year there were 106 Gaelscoileanna at primary level with a total enrolment of 17,447 pupils on 30 September 1996. In the 2009/2010 school year there were 147 Gaelscoileanna at primary level with a total enrolment of 29,024 pupils on 30 September 2009. Note that these figures refer to all-Irish primary schools and pupils located outside the Gaeltacht areas.
