196 Deputy Dominic Hannigan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if the Garda collects suicide statistics; the frequency with which they are updated; the statistics for the collection time periods in 2010; the statistics to date in 2011; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerI am informed by the Garda authorities that An Garda Siochana does not collect statistics in relation to suicides in Ireland.
I understand, however, that the Central Statistics Office, as the national statistical agency, compiles and publishes such statistics. I have requested the CSO to provide statistics directly to the Deputy.
