Question:88 Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Education and Skills the position regarding planning for a school project (details supplied) in County Carlow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20214/11]
View answerA major project for the school referred to by the Deputy was included on the list of projects on the work programme for 2011, which was announced on 24 January last. The Accommodation Brief has now been agreed with the School Management which will include the provision of a Special Needs Unit. The next stage involves the appointment of a Design Team and this process is expected to commence shortly.
All large scale building projects, including this proposed project, will be considered within the context of my Department's multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme. In light of current competing demands on the capital budget of my Department, it is not possible to give an indicative timeframe for the provision of permanent accommodation for this school at this time. The current status of all projects on the school building programme, including this project, may be viewed on my Department's website at www.education.ie and this will be updated regularly throughout the year.
