Questions (725)

Michael Conaghan

Question:

731 Deputy Michael Conaghan asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if there is scope within phase two of the Irish Rail Kildare route project to include the creation of a railway station in Ballyfermot, Kylemore Road, Dublin 10, in view of the fact that the area has been consistently disrupted by railway works over the past number of years, and will be again with the coming works, without any tangible benefit to the area. As Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. Following the establishment of the National Transport Authority (NTA) on December 2009, the implementation and development of infrastructure projects in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA), such as the Kildare Route Project Phase 2, comes under the remit of the NTA. The legislative basis for this is Section 11(1)(e) of the Dublin Transportation Act 2008 — Principal Functions of Authority — which states “the principal functions of the Authority are to secure the provision of public transport infrastructure”. With that in mind, I have referred the Deputy’s question to the NTA for direct reply. I ask the Deputy to advise my private office if he does not receive a reply within ten working days.
