76 Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he will repeal the Freedom of Information Act 2003, which modified the original Act of 1997, as an interim measure until the new Act is ready. [30540/11]
View answerMy Department is currently undertaking the necessary preparatory work to give effect to the commitments in the Programme for Government in relation to the restoration and extension of the FOI Act. I expect to be in a position to introduce the necessary legislation to give effect to these commitments in the New Year. As early progress is expected in relation to this commitment which is being prioritised by my Department there is no requirement for the interim legislation proposed by the Deputy.
