157 Deputy Patrick O’Donovan asked the Minister for Education and Skills his views on whether there are impediments to national schools being used by communities for local events. [30903/11]
View answerI can confirm to the Deputy that my Department has a general policy of encouraging the use of school facilities by community and other groups. In 2005, my Department issued a circular letter to all primary school authorities urging them to make their facilities available, where possible, for community and recreation purposes. Any proposal for the use of school facilities outside of normal school hours must be approved by the local school management authority in the first instance and where appropriate, arrangements are put in place to reimburse the school for any additional expenditure incurred by the school associated with such usage.
