Questions (89)

Seán Crowe

Question:

90 Deputy Seán Crowe asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Charities Act 2009 contains a definition of charitable organisation which differs to the definition contained in the Valuation Act 2001; if the Charities Act should have amended part of the Valuation Act; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The definition of charitable organisation in the Charities Act 2009 defines charitable organisation for the purposes of that Act alone, as does the definition in the Valuation Act 2001. I am not aware of any practical difficulties that may have arisen as a consequence of the slightly different wording, but this is a matter I would be prepared to consider, in consultation with the relevant Minister, in the context of any future review of either Act.
