93 Deputy Michael Creed asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if his attention has been drawn to the concerns being expressed regarding the high incidence of allegations of child sexual abuse in the context of family court proceedings; the sanctions he considers appropriate in the context of these proceedings when such allegations are proven to be untrue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the law as it stands the giving of false evidence in any court proceedings, including family law proceedings, is an offence punishable by imprisonment. While I have no specific proposals for reform at present, I will keep the operation of the law in family cases under review.
