108 Deputy Michael Creed asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform if he has made any recent decision regarding staff members elected to State boards and their entitlement to payment for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31761/11]
View answerMy Department has instructed Departments and Offices that, with effect from 1 November 2011, the payment of fees should cease in respect of (i) public servants serving on State boards and (ii) public sector employees who sit on their own organisation's board or the boards of other public sector organisations. Where contractual obligations may prevent the discontinuance of such board fee payments, Departments and Offices have been directed to put immediately in place the necessary arrangements in order to end such payment practices at the earliest possible date. The imposition of these restrictions on the payment of state board fees has regard to the constraints on public finances and the adherence to "one person one salary" in respect of public employees serving on state boards.
