The Health Service Executive has initiated a National Ambulance Service Reconfiguration Project, which includes the establishment of a new National Control Centre in Tallaght. The purchase of the building is currently approaching finalisation and the HSE has gone to tender for services to design the fit-out of the building.
Dublin Fire Brigade will continue to operate its current service on behalf of the National Ambulance Service in those parts of Dublin where the National Ambulance Service is not the principal service provider. However, in line with recommendations from the Comptroller and Auditor General, it is intended that the control and dispatch arrangements of that service will transfer to the National Control Centre, so that the population of Dublin has a single point of contact in the event of an emergency.
