Written answers

Following my appointment, I initiated a review of the decision of the previous Government to phase out pay to student nurses when undertaking the rostered placement. This review has now been completed. The review included consideration of representations made by the nursing unions but also had to take cognisance of the position in relation to the public finances. Following the review, it has been decided that undergraduate pay during the 4th year placement will be: 2011-2012 academic year — 60% of first point of the relevant staff nurse salary scale; and 2012-2013 academic year — 50% of first point of the relevant staff nurse salary scale.

The rate for the 2012-2013 academic year will be maintained for subsequent years or until any changes resulting from the planned review of the Nursing Degree Programme come into effect.

Ann Phelan

544 Deputy Ann Phelan asked the Minister for Health the reason patients attending a centre (details supplied) in County Laois are not entitled to the same Health Service Executive professional services such as occupational therapy, physiotherapy and so on; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
