79 Deputy Peter Mathews asked the Taoiseach the proportion of the population in consistent poverty each year since 2000; the proportion of the population in relative poverty each year since 2000; the Gini co-efficient of inequality each year since 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Survey on Income and Living Conditions (SILC) in Ireland is a household survey covering a broad range of issues in relation to income and living conditions. It is the official source of data on household and individual income and also provides a number of key national poverty indicators, such as the at risk of poverty rate ( a relative poverty indicator), the consistent poverty rate and rates of enforced deprivation.

The data requested by the Deputy for 2004 to 2010 inclusive are presented below in Table A. The first full year of data available from SILC was 2004. SILC data for earlier years are not available.
