185 Deputy Thomas P. Broughan asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of vacancies in the District Court, Circuit Court, High Court and Supreme Court; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [40118/11]
View answerThere are seven judicial vacancies at present; four in the Circuit Court and three in the District Court. The current procedures are set out in the Courts and Court Officers Act, 1995. In accordance with the provisions of section 16(2) of that Act, I have requested the Judicial Appointments Advisory Board to furnish me with the names of those persons it considers suitable for the current vacancies together with the name of each person who has informed the Board of his/her wish to be considered for appointment.
Following receipt of the Board's recommendations, the Government will nominate as soon as possible persons for appointment by the President.
