53 Deputy Michael McNamara asked the Minister for Education and Skills if it is the policy of the University of Limerick to require security officers who reach the age of 65 to retire; if so, are they being replaced by retired gardaí or prison officers who are already receiving a State pension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Universities Act 1997 universities are autonomous statutory bodies. As provided for in the Act the recruitment and appointment of staff is the responsibility of the university's management authorities.
