136 Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation if he will provide the number of retired persons serving on State boards and commissions; and the amount it is costing the State. [10688/12]
View answerThe Deputy will appreciate that the composition of the State boards and commissions coming under the aegis of my Department is set down in the relevant establishing legislation. In considering candidates for appointment, my priority and overriding focus is to find the best people for particular board appointments. In doing so I have regard to several factors including the expertise and experience of individuals, the balance of skills and attributes in terms of the overall composition of the board, the gender balance of the board and the availability and commitment of people to serve on the board. Candidates are not required to indicate if they are retired. Therefore, the information sought by the Deputy is not available.
