View answerI am informed by the Garda authorities that the outsourced safety camera network provides 6,000 hours of monitoring and 1,475 hours survey work per month across the country. The service provider is responsible for determining how many speed camera vans are required to meet its contractual obligations. I am also informed that, in addition to the outsourced speed detection, the Garda authorities currently operate eight mobile speed detection vans.
I am further advised that speed cameras are operated on sections of road which have a history of fatal and serious injury collisions occurring where speed was a contributing factor. In that regard, surveys continue to be conducted at these locations to ensure that the cameras are deployed where they are most needed.
