135 Deputy Michael Healy-Rae asked the Minister for Finance the number of persons who availed of the first time buyers’ exemption from stamp duty this past year on a county basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18120/12]
View answerI am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the number of persons who availed of the Stamp Duty exemption for first time buyers was 2,220 in 2011. The necessary detailed data is not currently available in such a manner as to provide a basis for compiling a breakdown of the figures by county as requested by the Deputy. The Stamp Duty exemption for first time buyers was abolished in respect of instruments executed on or after 8 December 2010 subject to certain transitional arrangements applying up to 1 July 2011 in relation to binding contracts entered into prior to 8 December 2010.
