917 Deputy Simon Harris asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if he has been empowered to access the bank accounts of those households who have registered their households with direct debit details for the payment of the household charge for any additional payments which may be required in future years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Local Government (Household Charge) Act 2011 and the Local Government (Household Charge) Regulations 2012 provide the legislative basis for the household charge. There is no provision in the legislation to allow me to access bank accounts.
