View answerThe recent announcement of the commercial partnerships between Irish Agri/Bloodstock Industries and companies in China has huge potential for the Irish thoroughbred sector. The next step will involve the setting up of an appropriate racing infrastructure in that country. Training is to be provided in Ireland for trainee jockeys and the Chinese are also interested in seeking equine veterinary expertise as it is their intention to establish world class thoroughbred facilities. The high standards maintained by the Irish horse industry can act as a useful model. It should be recalled that the experience in Hong Kong is that the racing industry there operates to the highest animal welfare standards.
