239 Deputy John Deasy asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of public servants that retired in Waterford city and county since the beginning of the year and the number of those that have been retired by the State. [23011/12]
View answerI am taking the Deputy's question to refer to the number of public servants who retired in the period 01 January to 29 February 2012 and who benefitted from the provisions under the Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (No. 2) Act 2009. This Act provided for the superannuation benefits of public servants, who retired within a "grace period" which ended on 29 February 2012, to be unaffected by the pay reductions introduced for all public servants with effect from 1 January 2010 under that Act. In the period 1 January 2012 to 29 February 2012 a total of 12 public servants who retired from my Department or agencies under my aegis were located in Waterford. Of these, a total of 5 had reached minimum retirement age, 6 availed of the Cost Neutral Early Retirement scheme and 1 person retired on Ill-Health grounds.
