249 Deputy Mary Lou McDonald asked the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform the annual saving to the Exchequer if all current and future public sector pensions in payment were capped at €60,000 based on current public sector numbers and assuming the cap of €60,000 included the integration of the contributory State pension. It is estimated that the imposition of a cap of €60,000 on pensions in the civil service, would result in an estimated annual saving of €8m. This takes no account of the tax and other statutory deductions foregone. Comparable data are not available for the public service as a whole.
