Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for the Environment; Community and Local Government the number of press officers in his Department; the number of press officers in each agency under his auspices; the total cost of press officers in his Department and in agencies under his auspices; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The duties of the Press and Information Officer in my Department are undertaken by a Personal Assistant. The salary scale for a Personal Assistant to a Minister is €43,715 - €56,060. The Environmental Protection Agency employs one member of staff who is the primary media/press contact and who also has other duties at an annual salary of €54,329.
