View answerSection 30 of the Teaching Council Act 2001 requires a person who is employed as a teacher in a recognised school to be registered with the Council in order to be paid from State funds. It is therefore essential for anyone employed as a teacher in a recognised school to apply for registration at the earliest possible opportunity. Once commenced it will be an absolute legal requirement for teachers to be registered in order to receive payment from the Oireachtas funds. The only exception to the prohibition on payment of unregistered persons in place of a teacher in recognised schools will be for very short-term cover which will be circumscribed by regulations. It is my intention to commence Section 30 during the current school year.
